We’ve had the chance to know a variety of characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last decade or so and we have very specific ideas about what they look like, but today, we’re going to be challenging those ideas by showing you some concept art revealing what some of your favorite MCU characters almost looked like. Everyone knows Chris Evans plays the role of Steve Rogers, but John Krasinski once thought he had a good shot of getting the part of Captain America and, interestingly enough, his wife, Emily Blunt, was once a shoo-in for the role of Natasha Romanoff. After she turned it down due to a scheduling conflict, Scarlett Johansson took the part.

Considering they’re a relatively new addition to Marvel comics, there was a lot of freedom when designing the Guardians of the Galaxy. You might be surprised that Rocket Raccoon nearly ended up looking less like a raccoon while Gamora almost ended up looking like the Mad Titan Thanos and, although Avengers: Age of Ultron is widely regarded as one of the weaker MCU entries, it might’ve been a lot better if it involved the massive Mega Ultron.
