One thing I want to express in this episode is why shoe repair is so important to all of use. First, it keeps us cobblers in business. Also, when you buy a pair of shoes that aren't too expensive, and you decide to throw them away, they wind up in landfills with millions of other shoes thrown away each and every year. Most of these inexpensive shoes are made of man-made materials that will be in the ground for more than 100 years. We like to say, "Buy a pair worth repairing."
If you buy a quality pair of shoes and maintain them you may have them up to twenty years or more. You know as well as I that NOTHING feels like a great pair of shoes on your feet. That's what keeps us cobblers in business, your favorite pairs of shoes. When you go into your favorite cobbler store, as many of you do, ask them questions on how to buy a good pair of shoes. They will also tell you how to properly take care of those shoes to make them last as long as possible. Some will even be able to measure your foot so you will know the correct size to wear.
Improper fitting shoes can cause foot problems and deformities such as bunions and Morton's neuroma. Sorry to tell you but as we get older most of our feet do change. If the arch falls over time our feet get wider and longer so that shoe you wore in your twenties may not be helping your feet by the end of the day if you're experiencing any of these problems. Many cobblers can help with these small problems without even touching your shoe.
