Hong Kong: Thousands wave laser pointers in protest against laser-related arrest

Thousands of demonstrators gathered at the Hong Kong Space Museum on Wednesday, lighting up the building with laser pointers to protest the arrest of a student for buying multiple laser pointers.

Footage shows the dome-shaped space museum covered in green, red and blue laser dots, while other signs are projected on the building.

"Our protest is in response to our brother who was arrested yesterday. We think laser pens can't be considered an offensive weapon tonight, it can hardly be used in an offensive attack, it's much weaker than my lighter," said Mr. Tang, one of the protesters. "The rally gave us a chance to unite in requesting that the police release our brothers."

Demonstrators have reportedly used laser pointers to temporarily blind police during the protests which have been taking place in Hong Kong since the end of March. Demonstrators are calling for the total withdrawal of a suspended bill that would allow for the extradition of the city's residents to mainland China for trials.
