Knitting Together Communities Through Craft Skills Training

Knitting Together Communities Through Craft Skills Training Despite all that is said about the community of Morvant/Laventille good things are coming out of the area.

This was the assertion by Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly at the launch of a skills training empowerment project in the Laventille East/Morvant community.

The programme "Knitting Together Communities through Craft Skills Training" is a Fashion Wear and Woodwork Manufacturing Programme which takes participants from training to production. Minister Gadsby-Dolly said the offering of skills training at no cost to participants is both a blessing and a privilege and should not be taken for granted.

The Skills Training Programme is being facilitated through the collaborative efforts of the Igbega Foundation, the Export Centres Company Limited, the Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) and WAND (women in action for the needy and destitute).

Member of Parliament for Laventille East/Morvant Adrian Leonce told participants, although the stigma of crime has tainted the community, they can be a part of the solution.
