Monday Minute Live Ep. 11: We Cannot Predict the Future

Kip and Evan share a fundamental tenet of Secret Powers of Love: “we cannot predict the future”, and show how this powerful tool can help us release negative emotions.

What we are really talking about when we say, “We cannot predict the future,” is detaching emotionally from things that have not yet occurred, and are therefore not assured. Because as much as our ego would like us to believe otherwise, we have no more ability to control what will happen in the next moment, than we do in changing what has happened in the moment that just past.

What we are really doing each time we try to predict what will happen tomorrow, is creating stress and anxiety in ourselves while waiting for that thing we predicted to occur. And then if things don’t turn out exactly as we predicted, our stress and anxiety turns into shame, guilt and regret over what we now perceive as past failure or disappointment, also beyond our control. What a never ending vicious cycle...

Are you seeing the commonality here? Stress anxiety, shame, guilt, regret; what do all these emotions have in common? They are all fear-based. Fear is also what is informing us that we have the power to predict and/or control the future to begin with. Therefore, just like with so many of humanity’s other challenges, fear-based thinking is the source. And just like our other challenges, evolving to love is the solution. Because when we come from love, we let go of our delusional desire for control over the story, perceiving instead that many things are beyond our control. And when we let go of our persistent desire to control what we believe should be, we open ourselves to the infinite possibilities of what is, what can be, and what will be. We could look at it this way: in fear, the future is limited; in love, it is limitless. So let go, and enter love’s flow to infinity and beyond...
