Spirituality and Virtues: Thinking About It

Spirituality and Virtues: Thinking About It Spirituality and the spiritual journey is so much more than the modern cliché of mere meditation or folded hands in prayer. Our journeys translate into our world and our daily actions, taking form of the qualities and virtues we have. Apart from being the building blocks of personality and society, virtues are also the physical manifestations of the knowledge we have imbibed in our understanding and living of spirituality. They are the basic values that we teach to our children and strive to perfect even as adults. Thus, it is not hard to understand why every scripture of the world gives so much importance to all virtues.
Pujya Gurudev helps us understand how the numerous values can boil down to 3 broad cornerstones, namely, truthfulness (the knowledge and understanding of the intellect), care and kindness (ie. Ahimsa), and self-control of both the physical and mental (ie. Brahmacharya). These 3 main categories form both the foundation of basically all religion and the disparate facets of our personality. When we are able to master or even somewhat get a grip on each of these categories, we flourish holistically as a person. Let’s get to know more about these 3 categories in the following videos of the series by Swamini Supriyananda.
