Subaru Outback 3.6 Idler Pulley Replacement

Subaru Outback 3.6 Idler Pulley Replacement In this video I show how to replace the Idler Pulley and bearing on my 2012 Subaru Outback 3.6R. The process will be the same for 2010-2014 Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy 3.6 engine models, check that the pulley part number is compatible with your Legacy or Outback 3.6.

Cost of the new Idler pulley with bearing at the time of the repair was roughly $35. Cost of just getting a high quality NSK (6203) replacement bearing would have been a little less than half, but I had the Pulley part on hand. I may go back and press a new bearing into the old pulley so I have it as a backup.

If you haven't changed your serpentine belt in a while, now is a good time to inspect it for signs of wear and cracking. Also a good time to inspect the Tensioner Pulley/bearing.

Parts Used:
Continental Elite 50024 Accu-Drive Pulley

Tools used:
• 15" x 3/8" breaker bar
• 14mm socket

Another option is to only replace the bearing:
NSK 6203-ZZ Bearing

Serpentine Belt (if needed)
ContiTech PK060640
