Birthday Bashes Show Homeless Kids They Are Worthy of Love!

Birthday Bashes Show Homeless Kids They Are Worthy of Love! If you are a homeless family there are a lot of things you don’t have – easy access to a private bathroom, regular hot meals, a comfortable bed. There is also a huge hole where happy family gatherings, like birthday parties, would ordinarily be filled with warmth and togetherness. Now, in one community in Los Angeles, there is an organization called Worthy of Love that is filling in a little bit of that hole by hosting special events for the children of these families.

Worthy of Love was founded by Mary and Ari Davis in 2013. They have been throwing incredible birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness in Downtown LA for over 6 years. When they started their monthly birthday bash in 2013 there were 15-20 kids at Union Rescue Mission, the only shelter that allows children in Skid Row. Now there are over 250 children of all ages staying at the Union Rescue Mission. The kids need for support is greater than ever.

Mary and Ari know that these children deserve to be reminded of their value and potential. They believe by showing them they are worthy of love, they will be motivated to pursue their dreams. “When you are experiencing homelessness, you lose dignity and we want to give that back to these kids,” Mary explains. “We want to let them know they are important, you can change the world, you are worthy of love.”

Each and every month since January 2013, the Worthy of Love monthly birthday celebrations have allowed the deprived children living at the Union Rescue Mission a temporary reprieve from the stress associated with not having a place to call home. As the number of homeless children has grown, the urgency of what they are doing at this critical point in the young lives of these children is what keeps Mary and Ari going.

“These kids are our future and we want them to change the world, and we know they will,” they reflected. “They are the most resilient children we’ve ever met.”

Come visit this full on birthday party extravaganza where 250 kids are all smiles as they enjoy the music, rides, face painting, petting zoo and especially…the love!
