Complexity of showering in long-term care How could we survive without showering regularly? Showering in nursing homes becomes rather complex rather quickly. In many states, the regulation is that residents should have the option to shower at least twice a week.

Due to this single rule and the staffing/resources of a nursing home, residents often suffer in the process. On top of that, the many factors of health that can go into the showering situation of a resident, people in nursing homes may feel like they are just living in their own filth.

Research supports the idea that individuals who are content with their showering habits in nursing homes feel a greater sense of home and are happier. We must educate ourselves on this impact and take small steps to better the lives of our older adults.
