Part #3 - Percussion|Funk Overhand Technique for 7 String Bass - by Terrence Richburg

This is Part #3 of one of my special performance techniques I love to use on stage, especially when soloing or laying down a nice funk groove--the "7 String Bass Overhand Percussion/Funk Technique." Again, this is a technique I developed that really opens up a wide range of musical possibilities with tonal, harmonic, and rhythmic percussive layering. This is Part #3 builds upon Parts #1 and #2, but really emphasizes the percussive nature and rhythmic aspect of the technique. Part #3 also starts to explore the full range of percussive possibilities on the 7 String Bass, including concurrent artificial harmonics. Again, this technique incorporates a number of techniques including hammering, tapping, slapping, plucking, open strings, and a few others along with simultaneous combinations and layering across the full range of the strings and neck. Using the "overhand" position of the left hand allows you more flexibility and alternatives in fingering the notes, thereby expanding the options and choices as compared to the standard position. Muting capabilities are also greatly improved.
