In 1975, Harry Wayne Casey took his house band into the studio to record an album of instrumentals, so he could shine the light on his rhythm section and took a back seat as keyboardist, producer and arranger along with Rick Finch. The album was titled "The Sound Of Sunshine" by The Sunshine Band and was full of original music except for their instrumental cover of "Rock Your Baby" that got George McCrae his first and only #1 pop hit. This track is crisp and clear and was made right in the middle of their most successful phase, so you know that the band is smokin'! KC and Finch wrote all the songs except for their collaboration with Clarence Reid for "Funky '75". Reid's most popular single "Nobody But You Babe" was answer song to the Isley Brothers then hit of "It's Your Thing" from 1969. The 1975 band line up was composed of KC on keyboards, Richard Finch on bass, drums by Robert Johnson, Kenny Hamilton on saxophone, Rick Benadetto on Trumpet and guitar by Jerome Smith. They were as tight as could be turning out all kinds of music tracks for other artists on the label. Their solo outing produced the singles "Shotgun Shuffle" and cover of "Rock Your Baby" that played very well in concert, that sax solo is something else! You can believe that the synthesis of KC with his Sunshine band has defined the disco era with its feel good, uplifting music until the Bee Gees came along, KC & The Sunshine Band were king! I hope you will enjoy this sideways trip into the past.....
