Legally changing the name is a very easy process, you can get most of the work done from your home. The name changes process, consists of three steps:
1. Affidavit Submission: An affidavit needs to be prepared for name change.
2. Ad Publication: An ad for name change to be published in the newspaper.
3. Gazette Notification: A notification should be published in the Gazette of India regarding the name change.
1. Preparing Affidavit: First of all, you need to approach a notary and get and affidavit for name change, you need to carry original photo ID with while approaching the notary, as this will be required for buying the stamp as well getting the affidavit attested by the notary. While preparing the affidavit, you have to explain the reason for name change.
2. Ad Publication in Newspaper: Once your affidavit is ready, you can approach any newspaper advertisement office, or you can also apply online. You will have to provide a photocopy/scanned copy of the affidavit for publishing an ad in the newspaper.
3. Gazette Notification: After getting your name change ad published in the newspaper, you should approach department of publication for getting your name published in gazette of government of India.
