The Pain We Carry - Jack Kornfield

The Pain We Carry - Jack Kornfield I remember once when I was walking with my teacher Ajahn Chah he pointed to a boulder in a field and asked, "Is that heavy?" I replied, "Yes, of course." Ajahn Chah smiled and said "Not if you don't pick it up."

What are we carrying? When we struggle with confusion, fear, ambition, depression, or loss, Buddhist psychology asks us to sense how we experience this in our body. Because our human body is considered precious in Buddhist psychology, no matter what the phase of our life, we are instructed to value and care for it. When our hearts open with understanding we will treat this very body and mind with kindness no matter what the circumstances.
