Banda Aceh is a long bus-ride from Medan, but we made it and settled in for a few days of exploring this unique city. The mainly muslim population are amazingly friendly, and loved helping us explore the sites of town, while getting a lot of selfies along the way. Banda Aceh was ravaged by the tsunami in 2004, but has recovered well. There are tsunami related attractions such as the museum, monuments and two awesome boats that were washed inland. We also found great markets, wonderful beaches, and enjoyed a look through the grounds of the beautiful Grand Mosque.

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.
