We pilots are always eager to just jump in the airplane, start up the engine, and go. But through our flight training, we learned that wasn't a good idea. Every good flight starts with a thorough and exhaustive preflight inspection. You never know what happened to the airplane. Nothing should be left to chance.
That's why it's very important to finish each job you start. A distraction from a passenger or another task can throw off the whole process, and make you miss something very critical to safety.
A big one is replenishing the oil. It's very easy to forget the bottle, the oil cap, the dipstick, or any number of other things around that area. Wait for your oil to drain into the engine before moving forward. It's a safe way to make sure you don't make a mistake.
Simply put, remember to FINISH THE JOB.
