Gebserian (1949) integrality, the emergent state of consciousness, is a multivalent four-dimensional mode outside of time and space. At the same time Gebser was developing this and the rest of his structures, Jung was considering the notion of synchronicity, “an acausal connecting principal” between events (1952). While each of Gebser’s prior consciousness structures have efficient and deficient modes, Gebser does not apply these terms to the integral. This paper discusses Jungian synchronicity as a manifestation of Gebser’s integrality and offers current political examples that look like permutations of a deficient synchronicity but are, in fact, episodes of deficient perspectivalism.
