Most Expensive Private Colleges 1998 - 2020

Most Expensive Private Colleges 1998 - 2020 This timeline graph is the most expensive private colleges and universities in the United States from 1998 - 2020.

The graph contains on tuition and fees for each year. Housing, meal plans, books, lab fees, and miscellaneous fees were not taken into account.

Additionally, these prices have been adjusted for inflation so you get a real idea of the true cost of these universities.

I created the data for the top 20 most expensive and then decided to only include the top 5 here as the prices are nearly identical in the further 15.

Including room and board is what makes these schools truly expensive though I didn't feel the need to use that data in these numbers.

Here are the top 5 most expensive private colleges from 1998 - 2018:
* Landmark College
* Vassar College
* University of Chicago
* Columbia University
* Franklin & Marshall College

Sarah Lawrence College and Harvey Mudd College were next up rounding out the top 7. Many articles list these nearer to the top (Especially Harvey Mudd) however, these two colleges have massive room and board charges. Since this graph is based on tuition and fees only, Sarah and Harvey didn't make the cut!

Data: The Chronicle of Higher Education served as most of the data and individual school numbers served as data points for 2019 and 2020 numbers as expected costs.

Jay Z makes an important cameo.
