The dashcam footage taken on Monday by another vehicle shows the SUV as it plunges off the cliff into the Pacific Ocean on Highway 1 in San Mateo County, California.
In the video, the car does not appear to slow down at all before it ramps off the edge of the cliff and disappears out of the frame.
CalFire, the California Highway Patrol, the San Mateo County Fire Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office searched for the car and driver in water that was as deep as 40 feet at the base of the cliff.
Rescuers found tire tracks on the cliff and car parts in the water below, but it is unclear if they were related to Monday’s incident.
Authorities had to halt search efforts on Monday due to a high surf advisory and have not been able to resume as of Wedndesday afternoon, Bert Diaz, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol told Mercury News.
No bodies have been recovered and the car has not been found.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash. ‘All (the video) shows is the vehicle veering off the cliff.
