… sometimes, in some families, there are large age gaps. Whether it’d be with the parents, the significant others, or with the siblings themselves… that’s how I thought my brother was. My parents were older and so was he. He was fifteen years older than me. So when I was nineteen, he was thirty three. Sure, some people think that that age gap was huge. Especially between siblings. But my parents are older. They’re in their late fifties, going on sixty. My friends used to tell me that everyone in my family were generations older than me. Which I get. I’m GenZ, my brother is a millennial, and my parents are boomers. Let’s skip past the jokes and get to the real issue within my family. It’s not a lie that my mom has issues with fertility, so it wasn’t really shocking when she had me at a much older age. Or, so I thought. The entire ordeal started when I was a senior in high school. It was the beginning of the last semester. I was set to graduate and go to college with a full scholarship and my entire life was planned out. Or as planned as you could get, taking out whatever bumps and curves happen along the way. I had great grades, the teachers all loved and appreciated my hard work, my friends respected me, and my family was proud. Especially my older brother. I don’t think anyone could top him with pride. He was practically radiating it… but things went wrong throughout the semester.
