Roberto Firmino goal for Liverpool vs Tottenham should not have counted says Carragher

Roberto Firmino goal for Liverpool vs Tottenham should not have counted says Carragher Roberto Firmino’s opening goal for Liverpool against Tottenham on Saturday should not have counted, says former Reds defender Jamie Carragher. Firmino took a sublime first touch and finished with aplomb past Tottenham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga in north London to give Liverpool the lead. VAR checked for a possible handball from Reds captain Jordan Henderson but they deemed the goal legal. Carragher criticised Tottenham’s role in the goal in the Sky Sports studio at half time. However, he says Liverpool should not have been given a throw-in just moments before the incident. Replays suggested the ball went off the pitch off Liverpool’s Sadio Mane rather than Spurs’ Serge Aurier. But the officials disagreed and Liverpool went on to take the lead. JUST IN: Roger Federer issues statement after activist Greta Thunberg takes swipe at Swiss star  “No [Liverpool shouldn’t have had the throw in], it was a Tottenham throw in,” Carragher said. “It was a difficult one because the linesman’s on the other side of pitch. “Martin Atkinson is behind so it’s always a difficult one to give. “But Tottenham don’t cover themselves in glory in how they’ve set up from this throw in really and Jose Mourinho will be so disappointed. DON'T MISSAtletico swap deal rejected, Eriksen to Inter updates, Bruno Fernandes to Man Utd latest [BLOG]Cristiano Ronaldo eclipses Lionel Messi in one key Ballon d'Or ranking – Van Dijk 12th [SOCIAL]Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the top flight this January [TRANSFERS] READ MORE Tottenham urged to sign Ajax star Hakim Ziyech by Spurs hero  “Harry Winks and [Toby] Alderweireld, look at the space between them. “Alderweireld should be closer, there’s only one man in the box but Winks gets done on the run and now the organisation goes. “It becomes like a pinball machine and it’s a fantastic first touch and finish. “But he’ll be so disappointed, Jose Mourinho, with that setup.” READ MORE How Ex-Arsenal chief could impact Tottenham's transfer plans  Jamie Redknapp, who played for both clubs, agreed with Carragher that Spurs did not deal with the situation as well as they should have. But Redknapp was full of praise for Liverpool and in particular Firmino and Mohamed Salah. “I agree with Jamie, it’s poor from [Tottenham’s] point of view, from Liverpool’s it’s quality, it really is,” Redknapp said. “A bit of composure by Salah, that touch by Firmino just to receive it, open his body up and firing it across Gazzaniga is wonderful.
