The students of Velammal Vidyalaya, Alapakkam took their pride and privilege in celebrating Pongal, our regional festival of harvest in our campus on. It was an extraordinary day with a typical village Pongal celebration. The celebration was themed on the idea ‘No Plastic’. The halls and reception were adorned with flowers, thoranam and sugarcane was stacked to grace the occasion. As a traditional thanksgiving occasion to nature, Pongal was celebrated with joy in the school with community members like parents, teachers, an NGO and students. The students exhibited joy and pride as they filled the campus with the land’s cultural aura. The Department of Tamil organized a plethora of programmes for the entertainment of the students. The Vice Principal, Ms. Latha cheerfully welcomed the guests to join the celebrations. The programme commenced at 10 a.m at the canopy 1 with hearing of God’s word, followed by a prayer and prayer song. Our students revived the festivity in a village with their colourful folk dance. The students exhibited a drama and did a magnificent job. The emotional abilities and the theatrical skills of students exhibited our true tradition and culture.Thereafter traditional games marked the pongal celebrations in our school. Students participated enthusiastically in all activities to promote pongal festival among the community. It gave an opportunity for the students to learn about culture & traditions.The Chief Guests of the day, Ms. Amsaveni and Ms. Poornima were highly impressed by the performance of the students, representing our Tamil culture.
