Welcome to my video about how to connect to to AirPods from your Apple Watch. In this video I’m going to Show you how to connect AirPods to your Apple Watch. I’m also going to show you how to connect to any bluetooth headphones or speakers, plus I’m also going to review how to get music on your Apple Watch so you can listen to music away from your iPhone, even if you don’t have the cellular Apple Watch! Let’s get to it!
To use AirPods with your Apple Watch just setup your AirPods with your iPhone first using the normal process as it’s a really user friendly experience. Once the AirPods are setup on your iPhone then they’re setup with all of your Apple devices that share the same Apple id, which is really super convenient.
But you can also setup AirPods directly with your Apple Watch if the need arises and they’re not currently setup with your iPhone. To do this either go to the bluetooth menu on the Apple Watch settings or for the easier way go to control centre on your Apple Watch and choose the audio output menu, then scroll down to connect a device which will bring you to the bluetooth menu. Now open the AirPods case close to your Apple Watch, press and hold the button on the back of the AirPods until the light flashes white to let you know it’s in pairing mode. Now the AirPods should show up in the menu, then tap the AirPods and connect. Now they’re connected to your Apple Watch. Once connected on your Apple Watch they should also show up on all of your Apple devices that share the same iCloud account within a matter of minutes.
You can use this same process to connect any bluetooth speakers or headphones to your Apple Watch. It’s really quite easy after you know how! The only difference between connecting AirPods and other bluetooth headphones or speakers is that they will not automatically setup on the other devices that share the same iCloud account.
As of the date of this video, there currently is only one way I know of to get music saved locally on your Apple Watch, that’s using the music app. Spotify does have an Apple Watch app, but it’s a satellite app, it controls Spotify on your iPhone and does not let you save music locally to your Apple Watch at this time. So if you plan to listen to music without your iPhone present sourced from your Apple Watch you’ll need to use the music app.
Adding music to your Apple Watch has become a bit more flexible recently as you can add music by the playlist, song, album or whichever criteria you like essentially. There’s also no longer an arbitrary size limit like there used to be, so you can fill the leftover storage on your Apple Watch completely.
To add music to your Apple Watch open the Apple Watch app on your iphone, scroll down and choose music. In this screen you have the option to fill available space with the music that’s in heavy rotation on your iPhone and below that you can manually add your music by pressing the add music button, then simply choose your criteria and add the music. Once that’s completed the next time your Apple Watch is connected to power and near your iPhone it will start to download the music to your Apple Watch. It’s faster than it used to be, but don’t expect it to be lightning fast like on your iPhone. I charge my Apple Watch overnight every night and have found when I add a playlist it sometimes takes two nights for all of the songs to get copied over to my Apple Watch. But once it’s copied over you can listen to music on your AirPods or other bluetooth headphones or speakers without your iPhone present, even if you don’t have a cellular version! This can be really handy if you don’t like to carry your iPhone with you at the gym or are out for a jog! I even have a friend who does this when they’re gardening!
