€55 Million: Cost of Direct Provision for Ireland in 2019 (05Dec19) After a year in which Direct Provision made the headlines with protests and meetings in Rooskey, Oughterard, Borrisokane, Achill and Ballinamore, it has been revealed that the cost to the Irish taxpayer of the direct provision asylum racket is €55 million for 2019. Since it's inception 20 years ago DP has cost the taxpayer €1.35 Billion.

Minister of State for Equality, Immigration and Integration described the cost of Direct Provision as "good value" for money.
